ISRAEL UPDATEMarch 3, 2002 - One of the most demoralizing aspects of America's War in Vietnam was a continued taking of the enemy positions, costing much human life, then to walk away and allow the enemy to reoccupy it.
America also felt the frustration of the Gulf War of 1990 - 1991, taking the war to Baghdad and declaring victory, but allowing Suddam Hussein to stay in power. He has continually supported terrorism around the world, including the heinous 9-11 tragedy.
American leadership must now focus itself on finishing the job it has started. Her attack on terror must also include the deep crevices of state-sponsored terrorism, along with financial and logistical support offered by nations and other terror groups.
Even if we are only somewhat interested in eradicating fundamentalist terror activity, bin Laden's bunch in Afghanistan cannot be the finish of the race. Rather, it must become a mile-marker on the road to completion.
Right now, it is safe to say we have made several inroads into the terror network, specifically in Pakistan, regardless of the commonly held belief that they are pro-American.
Iraq and Iran still pose not just a threat, but are asserting Arafat's Palestinian Authority, Syria's Hizbullah and also bin Laden's group, who still operates freely in the Sudan and 67 other countries.
We as a nation have experienced terrorism firsthand. Now as a nation we must learn and implement a plan to battle terrorism at a higher level and have the resolve to complete the task we have started.
March 3, 2002 - The state of Florida is famous for tourism, football and a combination of Old World Spanish charm, along with modern architecture and public expansion.
It is called the "Sunshine State" for its sunny weather and bumper citrus crops. Unfortunately, a recent development has now cast a shadow upon some of their academia.
South Florida University (USF), located in Tampa, had a computer science professor named Sami al-Arian, who recently lost his job.
He made a speech calling for "victory to Islam" and "death to Israel", thereby having his activities outside of the campus questioned. Officials are now saying they cannot guarantee his safety.
Actually, as far back as 1994, Sami al-Arian was mentioned in a documentary that showed he founded the Islamic Committee for Palestine (ICP) and the World and Islam Studies Enterprise (WISE). According to the Immigration and Naturalization Services, they were used as “fronts” to enable terrorists to enter the United States.
ICP conferences condoned violent acts against Israel, Israelis and Jews, as well as Western targets, according to the INS. Sami al-Arian himself has written three letters soliciting funds from sympathizers.
His ICP is an arm of Islamic Jihad, but has a “front” name for security reasons, proving that peace is still very far away. The war in Afghanistan is one in a series of battles to stop terrorists worldwide, but especially those operating in the United States.
To be continued. . .
