ISRAEL UPDATEApril 28, 2002 – Decisions made by American experts have long-lasting effects that can change our foreign policies and hinder those same policies in years to come.
For instance, our policy makers were adamant about Israel giving up the Sinai Peninsula as a concession for peace with Egypt.
Our experts failed to see that not only was Israel left vulnerable to attack, but also that she gave up three strategic air bases built in the Sinai after 1967.
Why was this critical for the U.S. military, both then and now? Quite simply put, had Israel kept these air bases, both the United States and Israel would have had a clear logistical advantage during the many conflicts that have arisen since the Camp David accord of 1978.
Another point - as Egypt continues to move closer to fundamentalist Islam, they are adopting a more aggressive stance against Israel.
It should also be noted that Camp David brought the Palestinians to the negotiating table in these Israeli-Egyptian talks.
How huge an issue this has become this past decade – with the signing of the Oslo accord and new pressure being brought to bear on America to resolve the problem.
In retrospect, U.S. foreign policy in the last 35 years has left Israel defenseless, supported her enemies, and destabilized the region. This has not only hurt Americans in the past, present and immediate future, but also has placed our country in the precarious position of being opposed to Israel and Almighty G-d. This does not bode well…
April 28, 2002 – Islamic apologists continue to maintain that Islam is peaceful and compatible with Judaism and Christianity – even stating that Allah and Yahweh are the same deity.
Yet the current series of suicide bombings since the signing of the Oslo accord proves otherwise. These “shahids” (martyrs) range in age from 10 years to middle-aged adults. The longer these attacks continue, the more justification that can be declared – not only for the actions of these killers – but also for statements such as “…it is an honor to refuse to live in shame, but to die in dignity…”
But the Holy Scriptures of both the Old and New Testament speak to us on a very different train of thought.
The Psalmist wrote, “Lo, children are an heritage of the L-RD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalms 127:3 Jesus was very clear about the importance of children when He said, “…Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of G-d.” Mark 10:14 and Luke 18:16.
As we are seeing this brutal carnage unfold before our eyes, one cannot help but think of the pagan, idolatrous religion that occupied the land before the Hebrews. In that ancient time, those G-dless people sacrificed their children to stone G-ds in order to gain favor.
Our G-d, the G-d of the Children of Israel and the Living Church of today, values life. He does not condone, nor do we use His creation to satisfy the twisted, perverted desires of ruthless dictators.
The future of the Palestinians continues to grow dim as the blood of young people flows in the streets and in the houses of Israel with the “blessing” of their leaders.
To be continued…
