ISRAEL UPDATE

May 26, 2002 – The situation in the Middle East grows bleaker with each passing day, regardless of the image the media portrays to the average citizen.

When Israel came to the table and signed the Oslo Accord, they thought they had the “ideal situation” – their enemy Arafat was now ready to make peace.

But more Israeli people were killed between the signing of the first Oslo Accord in 1993 and 1998, than in the previous ten years that they were at war with the Palestinians.  Israel is constantly dealing with lies and broken promises – a burdensome ordeal at best.

The last four years have only brought more dead and wounded, along with additional financial hardships, plus feeling tremendous pressure from the world to make peace with Arafat’s group.  Everyone is seeking an agreement or “new deal”.

If you were to trace through the very troubled history of Israeli/Arab relations, you would notice that many political strategists have come up with some type of “new deal”.  Their intent was to bring peace, but most people cannot even remember the names of these individuals, let alone their specific plans.

One cannot help but see that this man-made attempt at peace has been fruitless up to now.  As Christians, we realize and understand that soon will come a man who has the “master plan” to be put in place.

Ultimately, this covenant will be broken and then literally all hell will break loose.  But that only means that our Redeemer will come and once and for all crush the evil opposition – then His Kingdom will have no end.  We say, even so, come L-rd Jesus…

May 26, 2002 -  It surprised many people to see War Emblem, the now famous racehorse, win the Preakness Stakes, after winning the Kentucky Derby.

Perhaps more surprising was to see some race fans bow down to the horse’s owner, Saudi Arabian Prince Ahmed bin Salman, as he passed through the race track.

But when the Prince stated, “A lot of people have been asking me for autographs; I think I’m a little more popular than President Bush", I’m quite sure that surprised a lot of people.

When interviewed by a well-known broadcaster, the Prince stated how much he loved America, living here for 10 years going to school and making many friends.

One wonders what will happen should War Emblem happen to win the Belmont Stakes, thereby taking a Triple Crown.  No doubt there would be more bowing down and “fawning” to this Saudi prince. Proverbs 14:18 says, “The simple [gullible] inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.”

I realize people are easily caught up in the sentimentality of a sports victory, but let’s be practical about this Saudi Arabian monarchy that has finally been exposed as a multi-million dollar financier of terrorist activity against Israel and the United States.

While the sports world is enamored by the victory of War Emblem, would anybody dare ask the Prince to denounce Osama bin Laden and al Queida – both of Saudi origin?

Truthfully, War Emblem winning this race shows us just how shallow and unaware the American public is pertaining to the Middle East.  How quickly we forget the evil events of 9-11.  Sadly, our country is probably due for another “wake-up” call…
