ISRAEL UPDATEMarch 2, 2003 - Somebody once said “politics makes strange bedfellows” meaning that everyone is in the same bed. In today's world, the situation in the Middle East is proof positive.
The U.S. led coalition wants to rout the empire of Saddam Hussein because he has vast stores of chemical, biological, and possibly nuclear weapons, but so does his neighbor, Syria.
In 1991, Iraq was harsh enough to invade Kuwait, raping and killing as they went. Their neighbor, Syria, invaded Lebanon in 1975, killing 150,000 people - and they still occupy that nation to this day.
Hussein has brutally used chemical weapons and modern weaponry on the Kurds of Iraq. Syria pummeled the city of Hama, killing 25,000 of its citizens because of political disagreements.
The nation of Iraq was implicated in the funding of terrorists and assisting in the 9-11 terrorist attack on America. Meanwhile, Syria funds, trains and arms radical groups like Hezbollah.
Saddam Hussein has demonstrated his loyalty to Yasser Arafat, while Arafat and the Palestinians have reciprocated. This is especially true when it comes to protesting and working against American interests. Syria supports Arafat as well, as does the Iranian nation that is the center of fundamentalist Islam revolution.
Perhaps you don't see much of the difference between the two nations, but there is one great factor in the equation. . . Iraq will more than likely feel the wrath of the Allied war machine, while on the other hand, Syria will sit in the chambers of the U.N. Security Council, voting and deciding on what happens to Iraq - very strange bedfellows indeed. . .
March 2, 2003 - I expect to have evangelistic missionaries come to my door trying to persuade me to accept their belief system – and I find that they do this with great zeal.
But my perplexity comes not from these door-to-door workers - I know what and why they believe the way they do - it comes from those that claim to be Christians. Anymore, television and radio air time is filled with some of the most unorthodox teaching and preaching ever spoken, and it is labeled as Christian.
As these men and women declare their knowledge of the scriptures, it sounds more and more like the teachings of the door to door groups.
All of a sudden, some TV preachers are saying they can't find a literal Hell in the Bible, while another tells his followers the anointing of G-d flows from us the servants - to Jesus - then to the Father.
Now these "Bible teachers" are propagating a heresy saying that Jesus had to die physically and spiritually in Hell, thus becoming born again, so He could die for our sins.
Still another boasts of communicating with the dead, and another brags of astral projection-type experiences during his meetings.
Jesus clearly warned us of this, "Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not." Matthew 24:26
Jesus gave us advance warning and predicted of these very events transpiring, thus the believer must now, more than ever, try the spirits to see if they be of G-d. . . (I John 4:1) Remember, not all who say L-rd, L-rd shall enter into the kingdom, and not everything called Christian is orthodox. Much of it sounds just like the door to door evangelists. . .
