ISRAEL UPDATEJune 6, 2004 – Most likely the days of June 5, 6, and 7, 1967, will pass by most people's minds with little thought - but in reality, those days changed the world forever.
Israel's pre-emptive strike launched against Egypt soon developed into a two-front war, as Jordan chose to enter the hostilities by shelling the city of Jerusalem.
The reluctance of Israel to battle another nation proved to be a source of joy, as they were able to wrest Holy City of Jerusalem from foreign control.
Abu Tor, Augusta Victoria, Mount Scopas, Talpiot, Ammunition Hill, and the Rockefeller Museum are names not well known by most.
However, to those that fought there, lost loved ones during the battles, or to those of us who follow the Middle East. . . know that it is not just for the strategic importance, but allows us a peek into prophetic fulfillment as well.
Luke 21:24 tells us, “And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”
Since Gentile domination of the Jews has not been abolished, as it will be in the Millennial Kingdom, we know the events of those fateful days in June 1967 did not complete prophetic events, but the “picture” has been clarified for us.
According to the prophet Zechariah, Jerusalem will be the center of controversy in the last days, facing great opposition. Just remember, she is the centerpiece of G-d's plan and her best days are yet ahead.
June 6, 2004 - One of the most famous days in history was June 6, 1944, when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from the oppression of the Axis powers.
Commonly called D-Day, this event is also referred to as Deliverance Day, Deliberation Day, and Determination Day. This series of attacks accomplished its goal, but the events following this war proved only another war had started.
World War I was called “the war to end all wars.” The Versailles Treaty and the League of Nations brokered a temporary lull in the fighting, but the Maginot Line and the Fort Breden Complex were unable to stop the Nazi onslaught barely two decades later.
Treaty in place, governing body of nations with their canons and statements, concrete and steel bunkers extending the length of the French/Belgian border - and still war came.
After World War II, we entered the Cold War of Europe, saw the Bamboo Curtain, the Korean War (another multinational war governed by the United Nations), and within another decade, the Vietnam conflict was ushered in.
The history of Israel has proven that after five major conflicts and a continual war of attrition, that words and treaties brokered by men of governing nations and hostile neighbors only cause conflict, strife, and death.
As we recall the sacrifices of those that have served in the military, along with their families, we can hope in all of the man-made efforts to bring peace to this world, but only the Millennial Reign of Christ will accomplish what all man desire. . . peace, rest, justice, and equity. Until then we can only expect more wars.
To be continued . . .
