ISRAEL UPDATE

February 6, 2005 – In 1949, near the beginning of the Cold War, the United States, Canada, and many nations of Western Europe formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).  This was done to challenge the Soviet bloc that was working against the Western countries of the world.

Each side was attempting to draw “a line in the sand,” and make policy to determine where the boundaries truly were.  It was understood that these “lines” were not to be crossed.

Since that time, we can see the true double standard exacted against Israel, as they are the only sovereign nation whose borders constantly change.

To further this disparity, Israel is condemned for building a security fence that has reduced suicide bombing attacks, and increased tourism at the same time.  Unfortunately, this criticism of Israel continues to increase, while one of those reasons for criticism stands knocking on the door of American foreign policy.

Our foreign policy is creating a continual declining support of Israel… that on the flip-side, simultaneously strengthens Israel's enemies.

As this tiny nation continues to shrink in size, surrounded by hostile neighbors, American leaders seem to think this instability justifies our withdrawal of support.

History has shown us in the past that as America's policy goes, so goes much of the support for Israel.  Surely, if we took a stand against communism, we ought to be able to support the only stable democracy in the Middle East - the nation that G-d has chosen and still favors…

February 6, 2005 – As we study the pages of history, we find the great prognosticators that in both 19th and 20th Centuries all but guaranteed the grandeur of a nearly perfect earth.

These “great thinkers” espoused such great things as the ceasing of all wars, eradication of all diseases, and the fair and equitable treatment of all people.

How did they feel this would this be accomplished?  Due to better education, more people were now going to be thinking… this would solve all the problems and ills brought on by the previous generations that were not thinkers.

Yet within the confines of this nationalist thinking, these same individuals threw themselves into every type of vice and indulgence that can ultimately lead to the destruction of not just themselves, but entire cultures.

Were the great thinkers of the Golden Age of Greece and the Glory Days of Rome any more brilliant than those of the Renaissance?  Were the educated elite of the 19th and 20th Centuries any brighter?

The scriptures tell us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”  Jeremiah 17:9.  History attests to the accuracy of G-d’s word.  Men do not know their own hearts, so how do they dare to tell others how to find a way?

Optimistic prognostication only causes people to be built up for a giant letdown.  As we rush headlong toward the Great Tribulation, many are going to be let down by this way of thinking…
