ISRAEL UPDATE

November 12, 2006 – Helicopter gun ships hovering overhead firing salvos of rockets, armored vehicles rolling down the street, artillery pounding the city with explosive ordinance and heavily laden troops moving in and out of alleys and streets exchanging gunfire – Yes, once again Gaza, dragon’s lair of radical terror groups erupted into violence this past week, only this time it was women that became the dead and wounded.

The brave “freedom fighters” of Palestinian Nationalism called their women into the street to become human shields with the inevitable causalities following. 

During the second Intifadah (uprising) the Palestinians used their grade school and high school age children during fire fights with Israeli troops to gain media sympathy.  In fact, one television presentation actually stated the men were putting on women’s clothing to escape the fight.

When Saddam Hussein used young boys to serve as literal “mine detectors” in the war with Iran there were not enough adjectives to describe this evil dictator’s reckless attitude toward human life.

Today, however, the leaders of Hamas and its militiamen and women this week are hailed as martyrs and true heroes and heroines.

One can’t help but wonder if the news media today had covered our War of Independence or Civil War, if our nation’s leaders would be heroes for doing the same thing?

 

November 12, 2006 – When Judah was assailed by foreign armies and all looked lost they did not only ration thing they could.  II Chronicles 20:3,4 details how Jehosophat not only feared the L-rd and sought Him but Judah gathered themselves out of all their cities to join the King.

Is the church assailed by enemies today, and if so, what is our response?  Does the efforts of all the anti church watch dog groups trying to eradicate every trace of Christianity in this nation awaken you?

Could the post trauma and glaring reality of another 9-11debacle cause any of us to understand the necessity of calling on G-d?   Do manifold forms of sexual perversion, suicide rate, substance abuse, or rampant corruption cause us to realize just how serious the hour truly is?

Our children are not safe from predators and our nation’s leaders are so divided on how to resolve issues we sink deeper into the quagmire of partisan politics and nothing gets resolved.

G-d, give us the Jehosophats with the vision and leadership and leave the rest to be like those that responded to the king’s call, so we as individuals, families, churches and as a nation will be like those found in II Chronicles 20:3,4.
