ISRAEL UPDATE
February 25, 2007 – Secretary General Bar Ki-Moov has eloquently state that there is a critical need to solve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
First he wants to accomplish the goal of ending the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 and establish a viable democratic Palestinian state. But is there really a way to do this and have Israel and the Palestinians both benefit or does someone have to relinquish a whole lot of land?
Pre 1967 borders include the Golan Heights which were under Syrian control prior to the war, does Syria get the land or do the Palestinians?
Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria were under Jordanian control so will the Hashemite Kingdom receive the land or again give it to the Palestinians?
Ninety percent of the pre-1967 borders were returned when Israel gave up the Sinai Peninsula but I doubt Egypt will give it to either the Jewish State or fledgling Palestinian state.
That leaves Gaza, once controlled by Egypt, then by Israel and now the Palestinians, still nothing but poverty, lacking educational and medical facilities and is rife with sectarian violence.
If temporary peace does come through this plan, Israel stands to lose the most and this plan is a farce, it only creates bigger chunks of land going to her enemies and will not create two states living side by side but actually carves up what’s left and only her enemies benefit.
February 25, 2007 – After watching the weather reports the past several weeks not only do I feel sorry for those in the Midwest and eastern coast but I am also grateful I don’t live in such a climate.
How ironic that in the age of such concern about global warming we could see so much ice, snow and sub-zero temperature related deaths and fear of not enough energy to provide heating.
Now I do not disagree that there are not issues with the depletion of the ozone layer and subsequent warming trends. Then again, I must refer to the scriptures to remind us that all types of weather disruptions and changes in patterns would not only increase in frequency but intensity as well, as found in Matthew 24:7.
Even as man’s ingenuity and knowledge increases we are still unable to describe why these things are happening nor can we correct them.
Psalm 18:7 NKJ states “The earth shook and trembled; the foundation of the hills also quaked and were shaken because He was angry.”
To be continued…
