ISRAEL UPDATE
May 27, 2007 – If peace is to be found and maintained in Israel, it will require a twofold approach since there are two areas of concern.
The world is completely preoccupied with the violence that rages between Israel and Palestinian forces. However, little is said about the Palestinian vs Palestinian violence in Gaza between the forces of Hamas and Fatah. Both groups interestingly enough are supposed to be working in unison as their coalition Parliament establishes a viable state and governmental process.
Of course, all of the time, energy, financing and rhetoric is directed against Israel while at the same time the Palestinians kill each other at will and without restraint.
By definition the civil war raging in Gaza differs very little from what the world has seen in the Balkans, British Isles and Iraq at present. The continual bloodletting between the rival Palestinian entities is proof positive first that the problem is not Israel and second a stable democratic Palestinian state is indeed in name only.
In the case between Israel and the Palestinians the rules are broken by the Palestinians, Hamas vs Fatah, neither side obey the rules or show restraint and it is high time that we reevaluate who the real culprit is in the Middle East.
May 27, 2007 – The passing of Jerry Falwell has been nothing short of controversy, a sad indication on our culture.
It was said of Falwell he either divided or united and this is true, the proof is there for all to see. Every time he rallied the Christian world with his challenge against abortion or same-sex marriage it caused more separation from the opposition.
Again as Dr. Falwell stood against the tide of anit-Semitism and advocated a Biblical stand for supporting Israel it brought unity in some circles, division and attacks from the opposition.
I personally took issue with some of the things Falwell said and did, and had some doctrinal differences as well. That is quite alright as no one person, myself included, has all of the truth but the man was a servant of G-d.
In a generation that has been so marred by the sexual misconduct and financial abuse of so many televangelists all the liberals can say about Jerry Falwell is that he denounced sin, supported Israel and stood his ground.
Falwell’s ministry mirrored that of Jesus unifying and dividing at the same time, and if that’s the case he has now received a servant’s reward, and will enjoy eternity which supersedes anything his critics have said about him.
