ISRAEL UPDATENovember 18, 2001 – On October 6, 1973 Syria and Egypt launched an all out attack bent on the destruction of Israel with the help of several Arab/Muslim nations. The two-pronged attack launched on Golan and Sinai fronts was from the very beginning an all out attempt bent on the total destruction of Israel.
A combination of Arab passivity in the Sinai overconfidence on the Syrian front, Israeli resolve and the hand of God almighty saved the Jewish nation.
The attack came on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), the highest Jewish holy day of the year, when the nation was retired to synagogues and homes, and every military person possible had been given leave to observe the somber occasion.
Knowing all of this, and being told by an Israeli officer the Arabs were to be observing their holy day of Ramadan during the same time frame – and that they were absolved from required fasting in order to destroy Israel this past week, annoyed me.
President Bush has been asked to cease the bombing of the Taliban forces in Afghanistan in honor of Islamic Holy Day just as President Clinton was during the Kosovo Crisis. The people who planned the World Trade Center bombings knew the clean up would last long into the winter months and would encompass Thanksgiving, Christmas, and probably Easter.
None of the terrorists involved were interested in sparing life or had regard for anyone’s feelings, so why should the bombing cease for a holy day?
November 18, 2001 – By the time World War II had ended, Germany had been devastated by U.S. incendiary bombings that burnt the nation into oblivion, and Japan felt the wrath of nuclear bomb blasts that forever changed the world and the way we fight wars.
The decades following the war to end all wars brought about the war of the trade market as the Euro-Asian power was brought to bear on the world. America has never been the same as rockets and bombs were replaced by quota sheets and quarterly reports.
We have seen much jubilation as the reports come from Afghanistan that men are shaving their beards, women are showing their faces and their music is playing in the streets, all once outlawed by the Taliban.
But please remember the deep pockets of the Arab. Petro dollars not only own much of America’s business, but have also loaned multiple billions as well, and can call in their markers anytime. There are still millions of Islamic fundamentalists being recruited, trained and operating all over the world and the international terrorist movement marches on in spite of B-52’s and carpet-bombing.
Again, let me quote the prophet Jeremiah’s anguish as he saw pending doom, “My bowels my bowels, I am pained in my very heart, my heart maketh a noise [is disquieted in me] I cannot hold my peace because thou hast heard, Oh my soul the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.”
