ISRAEL UPDATE

December 15, 2002 - The Saudi Arabian government is in a frenzy, scrambling to convince the world that the money funneled to al-Qaeda was a mistake.

And since it is the holiday season – Chanukah, Christmas, Ramadan, and Kwanza - let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and say, OK, that was a mistake…

And the fact that government money trickled down through multiple hands to what is now the most famous terrorist group ever, was bad, but it won’t happen again.  Really?

Our “ally against terrorism” still has not accounted for the multiple millions upon millions of dollars that have gone directly to Arafat and the PLO for almost four decades – killing Jews and disrupting Israeli life.

Ironically, this is the same 40 year period that the Saudi government claims it has been standing with the United States on its policy against terrorism.

Once again, since it is the holiday season, let’s give the Saudis the benefit of the doubt, since Mr. Arafat maintains that he is the legitimate head of state – and is a “freedom fighter”, not a terrorist.

Al Capone, a notorious gangster of the last century, is said to have personally killed 40 people and orchestrated the deaths of over 400 others – so the accountability of this latest faux pas still lies at the doorstep of the administration.

Take away the al-Qaeda issue and the PLO semantics – you still have Saudi money going to Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and others.  So their public relations “tap dance” still continues as they plot to destroy Israel and America…

December 15, 2002 – If you are watching the trends of theology in Christian circles today – whether it is liberal or conservative – the pattern is less than encouraging.

We are seeing the rise of “higher criticism”, where men of the cloth are taking the Scriptures and the life of Christ to a new found depravity.

Miracles are explained away as fanciful experiences that have been embellished beyond the bounds of reality.

The Scriptures are being dissected more and more – being downgraded from divine inspiration to allegory and practical application.

These trends upset me – as they should you -  because we see the simple truth of the Gospel being eluded to as basically “just another book”.

But the underlying current of this trend is one that dates back to the Garden of Eden and the original sin.

Men who take this approach to finding G-d are making a serious mistake. They are stating “I just want to see G-d and present Him on my terms”.

Yet one cannot read from Genesis to Revelation and not see that G-d always moved counter to man’s plans and ideas, whether it was Abraham’s son given at his old age, Jonah’s calling to Nineveh, or Peter’s segregation rule being shattered.

Hebrews 11:6 clearly tells us, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to G-d must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”.  So if we expect G-d to move on our behalf, we must trust in Him – not ask Him to measure up to man’s concept of who or what He is…

To be continued…
